Guarding the Grid and Our Mutual Success at EFX 2025

two professionals smile for the camera and another takes part in a panel presentation in Portland

I've been working with the kind folx at the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) for several years now. What this Avengers-like team of energy industry professionals do with their careers is nothing short of extraordinary: ensuring that the world keeps moving and the lights stay on.

Not just at a bare minimum level but in a way that's sustainable, predictable, in harmony with Mother Earth, and mindful of its increasingly fragile climate.

When I photograph events like Efficiency Exchange 2025, the subject matter might not be quite as flashy as at Comic-Con ... no KaPOWs, raybeams or detailed fight choreography to be seen here.

But I hope you know that I'm speaking genuinely when I say that being around these people gets me excited about the future. I get to capture their passion, professionalism and all the warm relationships that ensure our mutual success. You know what they say — with great power comes great responsibility — and I do not take this one lightly.

This gets to the very heart of my human-centric approach to event photography, and media production in general. It's all over the faces of the people in these photographs  — their work matters deeply to them. And so does mine, to me. And together, in this way, we're building a future in which all of our dreams might be possible.

Big thanks to Renee at Cyclops for her amazing production skills, and all the nice people who I get to see smile year after year.
